Apprenticeships
Carpenters Union Local 254 offers a 5-year apprenticeship program combining on-the-job training with classroom learning, equipping participants with skills relevant to offshore wind careers. Training areas include scaffolding, aerial lifting, blueprint reading, and welding, which prepare apprentices to earn journeyworker credentials and pursue careers in carpentry. Skills-enhancing courses are also available to apprentices and journeyworkers, enabling them to refine or acquire new capabilities for evolving trade opportunities.
Additionally, Carpenter’s Local 254 partners with the National Helmets to Hardhats Program to administer a local initiative supporting transitioning military personnel, National Guardsmen, and Reservists. The program offers personal career counseling, interview coaching, entrance test preparation, and review of apprentice entrance requirements, helping veterans seamlessly transition into carpentry roles that support infrastructure projects like offshore wind development.
